Wickedly Ghoulish!

We have this little tradition in our neighborhood on Halloween. Let me start by saying we live in a great little area. There’s one street in, 4 little streets off of it, 2 cul-de-sacs and a shitton of kids. Trick-or-treating is frightfully awesome. We’ve even noticed that strangers full of ghoulish kids and adults alike have been ‘traveling’ to our ‘hood for a lil T-O-T action.

So that’s the back story.

This Sunday, after church and football and skating lessons, we’ll gear up for it. We’ll don our spooky costumes. We’ll paint our faces. We’ll hide the dog [he likes to sniff crotches and will be howling like a banshee from the basement when we have to lock him up. Shut up, it’s for the greater good].

Why, you ask?

Because, you see, when guests show up at our doors and scream Trick OR TREAT, their sweet little princesses and boogey men are offered candy from the kid-cauldron. The parents are offered a sip from the adult-cauldron.

That’s right. A drink at every house. Wicked wine in a sippy. Shots in from a test-tube shot glass. Beer in a creepy cup. You can hear the cackles 6 houses away.

Of course, the one who got the short straw and is stuck at home doesn’t have to drink for every guest. Come on people! No worries, though – we catch up at the party house at the end of the night. As fate would have it, one of the neighbors was born on October 31st. They typically plan a little shin-dig with wings and cocktails. The kids are all high on sugar; the parents all feel like zombies from the trip around the block. Fabulous, I tell you.

Don’t you wish you lived near the Kiss Hizza ;)

Ok, my pen and paper are ready to write down your address....waiting...waiiiiiiting....

Last year we foolishly took my 1 year old son trick or treating to all of our friends homes...which meant we had to drive everywhere. At every stop, Chunky got some candy (that I ate) and hubs got a beer. EVERY. HOUSE. My hubs crawled from our car to our house that night. It was a hilarious sight.

This year, he's driving...muwhahaha. Actually my kid is almost tall enough to drive. What's the legal age? 2?

the people in my neighborhood smoke weed and have sex in my backyard so, yeah, i'll be going to someone else's neighborhood for the T-O-T action.

somehow, typing 'T-O-T action' makes me feel like a pedophile.

Man, I so wish we lived in your neighborhood. I may start this tradition at our house. I may have a hard time sharing the contents of the adult cauldron, though.

Oh, we used to do Trick or Drink in the dorms in college! Maybe even had candy...can't remember that. I would SO love to live in your neighborhood, but I might look forward to Halloween all year long.

I'm so envious. I was going to take the kiddo to a harvest fair, but now I'm thinking I need to hit the road for MommaKiss adventure 2010. If you see a beat up teal Honda sputtering down the road, you know that I've arrived.

I'll bring the cupcakes.

You are gonna feel like shit on Monday morning! Hurrah for holidays on Sunday nights!! Here in Utah where we're all Mormon and don't do heathen things like Trick or Treat on Sundays, (?), the entire state TOT's on Saturday night. Weird, huh?

Let's make this a tradition in every neighborhood. Starting next year... you know, after I've popped this kid out.

That sounds like a blast! It must be nice to have a neighborhood that's friendly. We do not have that! the neighbors aren't unfriendly, just to themselves.

This year is the first year I'll be "Trick or Treating" since 7th grade or so (unless you count randomly knocking on college dorm doors demanding liquor on Halloween). Yours sounds like the perfect mix of "fun" and "cute". Good on you, momma. Good on you.

And, when new people move into the neighborhood, do you warn them of what is expected of them?

If I could have a drink at every house, I might actually, you know, want to talk to my neighbors. And, not want to shun Halloween. And, not be a social misfit.

Drinking to be cool doesn't mean I have a problem, right?
