I'm a genius.

I know it's a long weekend up in here, and if I have my way, I'll be outside by the pool for ALL of it.

So I'm scheduling this - an idea to share. I'm nice like that.

We have a birthday party to go to on Saturday. It's actually one of the kids who came to Big Kiss' 6th birthday party - he fell in love with the place (mini golf, how awesome, right??)

Big Kiss is stoked and it's one of his buddies that goes to a different school - we don't see them much.

Today I was out for lunch and remembered I had to get a gift. Sadly, it didn't fit in our schedule to have my kid shop with me for his friend. He'll have to get over that.

I'm wandering the aisles of Toys R Us, picked something simple and then went to get a gift bag. Found the wall of bags, and every single one? Over $4. Four Bucks? For a throwaway bag?? And those were the plain ones, the ones with cartoons and shit all over them were at least $6.

I'm not cheap - but just couldn't see spending that kind of money on a bag the kid will rip up and toss within 2.2 seconds.

And then. I turned around and saw them. Reusable bags! Cute ones! AND?? Only $1.29!

Tossed the gift inside - Big Kiss will make a card - Buddy will get a bag to carry his swim crap around. Or his toys. Or whatever, I don't care.

Cute right?

I'm a genius. I know it.

Hope y'all are having a fab weekend like me (don't be jealous).

God Bless America!

I LOVE those bags! I get them for ever kid I know. It is kind of crazy that they are so cheap. You just can't pass it up! I actually just got that bag for a friend's kid for his first birthday. What little boy doesn't love dinosaurs!?

All I want for my next birthday is a gift certificate for Botox or a Brazilian or both.

In a blur reusable bag with a dinosaur on it.

Great idea! The cost of disposable gift wrapping is outrageous.

Because of my mother, I'm the kind of girl that saves & reuses the pretty bows.

I did that once! I was thinking the same thing. Here's my tip. I always buy gift cards. Very few exceptions to that. I buy a little bucket from the Target dollar section and instead of spending for a card, I just use the bucket, throw in a piece of tissue paper and make a little tag for the handle that says it's from us. Depending on whether the bucket has a print, sometimes I write the birthday kid's name on it. Pretty cute presentation for just a dollar. Maybe I need to do a post about it. (stealing)

Those gift bags? Are insanely expensive! I either buy a reusable one or a gift bag from the dollar store. But $6 for a bag? Ick!

You are a genius -- especially b/c I've been doing this for a year now and you've obviously finally gotten the memo ;) Hope you're having a blast of a weekend! (and are Friday Flip offs going to make a come back? B/c I could seriously use some major flippage.)

I'm not cheap, well, except when I'm buying myself wine, but I'm with you on the "too damn expensive gift bags." While I'm a half-decent shopper for gifts, I'm a shitty ass present-wrapper.

I've actually been avoiding Toys R' Us specifically because of the "too damn expensive gift bags," and I'm way too lazy to get a gift somewhere and go somewhere else for a gift bag (and buying bags ahead of time requires forethought).

You are a genius.

But what I always a gift card. Requires no trip to Toy's R Us because they can be purchased at the grocery store and requires no wrapping. Extra genius.

I wouldn't have thought of doing that. Great idea!!! Although our grocery stores' reusable bags aren't nearly that cute.

You are indeed a freakin' genius. Who wouldn't prefer a reusable environmentally friendly dinosaur bag over some lame paper happy birthday land fill filler??

You are a genius, and the kid's mother thanks you! Do you know how many of those paper bags I have stored in my basement. I think it's a fire hazard down there.

Brilliant, Oh wise one. I have never seen those reusable bags before, but I will keep an eye out. I am fundamentally against pricey gift bags also.

The over the top prices on gift bags at Toys R Us drive me crazy! I wonder if they really do make a killing on it - just based on desperation factor!
