Friday Flip Offs 7-15

I didn't plan to Flip shit off today, but DAMMIT, I have to!

Don't know what Friday Flip Offs are? Well. What I do is post my grievances on Friday so that I can enjoy the weekend, hopefully guilt free. Yah? Yah. OK - so join in if you want. Grab a button. I'll even try to get that linky working again. [not the most technically sophisticated kid here.]

So my only flip off today?

TO MYSELF! My kid lost his 5th tooth yesterday. He's now lost 3 on top, 2 on the bottom. And he knows the tooth fairy routine. [Check this pic of the day he lost his first toof - he's fucking cute.]

Anyway. We use a super special dish for the teeth. It's from Mr. Kiss' gramma, it's the perfect size and we put it on the dresser. Who the hell fishes for teeth under a pillow? Jeesh. So he went to bed, excited about getting money. And then so did I.

I heard him wake up, heard the glass dish open, heard it close and smacked my forehead.

I. Forgot. To Put. The Money in.

Mind you, Mr. Kiss could have done it himself. But he didn't. So we both forgot. But WTF, there's another Flip Off. WHY is it that I take all the guilt? Whatever.

The thing is, this kid is such a schmoopy happy boy. He's generally well behaved. And he is SO into this crap. The tooth fairy, Santa, The Elf on the Shelf, Easter Bunny. Cripes, I could create a fictional person like a Master Pooper Scooper or something and he would probably believe in it.

And that is magical to me.

And I fucked up.

My solution to this fuck up is to recruit a friend [Thank You Poppy] to call my phone today and leave a message pretending to be the tooth fairy, saying she was sorry and too busy or something. I'll play that message for Big Kiss later on when I pick him up. Hopefully he buys it - and bet your ass he's getting double tonight.

There. I do feel a little better. A little. Tell me it's ok, even if you have to lie to me.

If this works, feel free to link up! I promise to visit - love me some Flips!

It is okay. I told him there is no such thing as the toothfairy so you're off the hook!

You are an amazing Momma.. don't sweat the small stuff, chances are they're gonna forget long before you do. ♥♥♥

My parents tried to make the tooth fairy thing more real when my older sister lost her first tooth by making a twisty trail of fairy dust (glitter) that went from her bed to the wall. I was about 3 1/2 at the time and in my observation stated, "Look! The tooth fairy was drunk and hit the wall!" At least your tooth fairy leaves phone messages and isn't a lush so I think your kid will be just fine.

That is so awesome that you had Poppy call and leave you a voicemail. I never though about that. We have so forgot before. One time we forgot several days in a row. The funny thing is he was such a jerk about the whole Santa not being real thing but yet he thinks a tiny fairy comes in his room in the middle of the night and takes his tooth in exchange for money. ICK!

I have forgotten to be the tooth fairy more than once and I always feel like shit about it too. I just usually told them she probably couldn't find the tooth or just didn't get to it yet and will come the next night! I never thought to have someone call and play her. That's genius! Hope it works.

We have not started losing teeth yet (although it's a regular discussion: "Is this tooth loose?" "I think I have loose tooth!" "Can you just pull this one out so the Tooth Fairy will come?")

I know - without a doubt - that our Tooth Fairy is going to fail at some point. Because I've met our Fairy, and she can be kind of absent-minded, especially in the nighttime hours.

I don't think there's a parent who hasn't made that little mistake, darn it feels really shitty.
Try putting the cash under a different pillow in the house ( say the couch ) and tell him the tooth fairy was so tired she took a lie down on the couch and must have slipped the cash under the wrong pillow-oops and that's where you found it!

I'm flipping you off, but only with half a finger because I almost did that a few weeks ago and RAN in right before he was going to wake up. Because I suck. Not to mention that my kid actually LOSES the teeth he loses. Literally, I wanted to not give him any money because if the tooth fairy shows up and there isn't a tooth...

Double pay will definately suprise him enough to totally forget about not having it in there this morning. Nothing like bribing - even if he doesn't know it's you.

That's awesome that he's so into this. It's very sweet to have traditions, even if they get fucked up sometimes. He'll remember all the other times it was perfect. And, if he ever does remember this, when he's an adult, with his own kids, he'll laugh and it'll make him feel okay when he isn't the "perfect" parent.

(and why the hell can't I get the Google profile to let me post? ARG! Google sometimes...makes me want to flip something off! HEY! *IDEA*)

No worries at all.

I think the tooth fairy is pretty low on the mystical present leaving spectrum.

you're good.

Totally ok to lie. One friend told her little guy that the dog barked in the night and scared the fairy. Another friend said the fairy was too busy that night b/c it was a big tooth losing day.
I tweet out a please remind me plea and someone usually does.

I'm pretty sure every parent in the history of the world (at least the parts of the world that perpetuate the whole Tooth Fairy thing) has forgotten at least once. My parents had 4 kids and forgot at least once for each of us. Some a few times over. You'd think they'd stop doing that. Regardless, getting Poppy to call is a great idea!

I freaking love Poppy. And you, too - but that's a really, really awesome way to go about fixing it. Big is going to head around on Monday saying "I got a voicemail from the toof fairy"

I swear the tooth fairy was invented to make us parents feel guilty. We've all done it.

Great save in having your friend call and leave a message!!

I'm guilty of this same thing. The only thing that reminded me was hearing him search around his room the next morning looking for it. Hey, I suck sometimes, what can I say?

Great idea having Poppy call!

Aack! I'm so afraid I'm gonna do something like that soon.
Way to go with getting the tooth fairy to call. Is your boy charging interest on that tooth payment?

Don't worry you only feel this guilty the first time you forget. After that everyone adapts and your kid won't even expect it the first night!

I hope they don't figure out Big Poppa is the tooth fairy! I have my 13 year old to play tooth fairy for the littles. I'm happy to cover your ass, you'd do it for me.

I have done this a couple times to my oldest daughter. Once I even forgot 2 nights in a row. I just made up some story and she bought it. Luckily now she knows the truth and I don't have to worry about it anymore. At least until my youngest starts losing teeth. Good friend Poppy.

Oh, yes, the forgetting.

I've forgotten Christmas gifts, too. So you're fine. I mean 75% of kids whose parents forget to give them Tooth Fairy money do NOT go on to become hoboes, so those are great odds. Right?

Having the Tooth fairy call your house is even better than money! (in my opinion)
Good luck on the walk, you ladies will kick some butt I'm sure of it!

Its totally okay. Lil Duck's fish died last week. THAT was fun (I think I forgot to feed him or maybe overfed him). Especially when she stood in front of his bowl and said "Guinea Pig please wake up. PLEASE?! I want to tell you something!" HEART.WRENCHING.

So we have a new one in a new and improved house.
